Umbilical Spooling & Management System
UES can provide controlled spooling services to deliver accurate and efficient spooling results, up to a maximum 15t back tension. Correct cable spooling will prolong umbilical life and reduce the risk of damage during offshore operations.
The spooling operation comprises 3 main pieces of equipment
- Storage drum spooler
- Tensioner
- Winch
Additional equipment is utilised as required
- Cleaning head
- Pressure lubrication system

UES can provide storage drum spoolers that adapt to suit the size of wooden or steel drums typically supplied.
The UES back Tension winch has a cantilevered drum for easy installation of the product, and a diameter of 1800mm to accommodate cables of increased minimum bend radius.
To meet the demands for higher back tension the UES Tensioner can apply a back tension of up to 15Te.
During spooling operations the back tension can be continually monitored and recorded. In addition the length of cable transferred between reel and winch is monitored and recorded. This data can then be collated and presented to the client as a record of the service provided.
In addition to the basic spooling operation other services can be provided, these include product cleaning using high pressure water blasting techniques and product pressure lubrication to extend the service life.
Spooling services can be carried out at our yard or the equipment can be transported for onsite operations where it is impractical to remove the umbilical winch from its working location.
